Review:Dark Notes by Pam Godwin

April 8, 2016

They call me a slut. Maybe I am.
Sometimes I do things I despise.
Sometimes men take without asking.

But I have a musical gift, only a year left of high school, and a plan.
With one obstacle.

Emeric Marceaux doesn’t just take.
He seizes my will power and bangs it like a dark note.
When he commands me to play, I want to give him everything.
I kneel for his punishments, tremble for his touch, and risk it all for our stolen moments.

He’s my obsession, my master, my music.
And my teacher.

"It's universally known that the more forbidden something is, the more desirable it comes".

What is it about forbidden romance that grabs your attention. The secrecy, the desire to want someone you know you can't have? Or is it that scorching, all consuming passion that is within arms reach. That is what forbidden romance is for me. The attraction, the lust, the want, the need and that moment when you say to hell with everything and finally just.give.in.Can you feel it now? The intensity of their passion, the slow burn, and then that moment when everything goes BOOM.

"That's when I hear it. The tempo of our breaths. The drum of our heartbeats. The crackle is in the air. The exquisite cadence pulses through me, awakening sensations I've never felt, composing a melody I've never heard. Our hypnotic, dark notes. "

Ivory Westbrook hasn't had an easy life for the past four years. Losing her dad when she was thirteen took a piece of her heart that she's sure she wont ever get back. All she has now is a musical talent that she's depending on to make it into the best sought after College.Attending one of the most prestigous high schools, she's determined to come out and prove not only to herself that can make it,but a huge part of her wants to make her dad proud and not make his dream for her go unnoticed.

She doesn't fit in with her peers, her brother is a certified douchenozzle and along with her mother, they blame her for everything. But Ivory keeps everything in check. The mortage is being paid and she's the only one that makes sure there's food in the house. How does a seventeen year old full time musical prodigy do that? How many secrets is she really hiding?

Being taught under the same teacher for the past three years and learning that she has retired,Ivory meets her new piano teacher. Her very HOT piano teacher. Emeric hasn't always played by the rules. Being a man that has always taken charge of everything, he has no plans to stop now.

Meeting Ivory for the first time was like a primal shock to his system that he wants to experience over and over again while taking her and introducing her to his world. But he's a teacher and she's his student. Can their attraction to each other really go away or will this all end in disaster?

"I want you." He nibbles my lower lip, licks just inside the seam, then rests his forehead against mine. You make me want things I can't have".

I really liked that this was a differentt student/teacher romance. Ivory's past was tragic and you couldn't help but feel for her even though at certain times I just wanted to shake her. She showed strength and courage when it really mattered and her determination was a freshness that I enjoyed reading about. Emeric was bossy, sinful and freakin hot!! Jeez the things that man did and said had me wanting to put my head in the freezer to cool off.

But........ I enjoyed the first part of the story more than the rest. I loved their first interaction with each other and the buildup of what was going to happen.I needed more action in the second part and more angst. I also would've liked to see a longer epilogue but that's just me being greedy. Aside from that, if you're a true forbidden romance fan, then this book has your name all over it.
