This has been a brutal month for reading emotional stories for me and now I can add Reclaim to that list. Friends to enemies, best friends/ lovers, whatever you want to call it, this story seriously took you on a journey that was NOT easy at times.

If you’ve read Release then you were already introduced to Nora and Camden and you were practically salivating for their story. This story starts out wen Nora is eleven years old and Camden is twelve and we got front row seats to the start of a friendship and love story that would be not only filled with the best kind of love, but it will be heartbreaking as well.



This was a slow burn romance that tested me a few times. I really loved seeing the main characters when they were younger and their setting for summer days but I wanted more time with them. I was not a fan of the time jump and I felt like as they got older, certain things should’ve already been set in stone and they weren’t.

Besides that, I really felt the love and saw the sacrifice that these characters made for each other and it was a beautiful thing to really see. If you enjoyed Release or any of Aly Martinez books, then this one is not be missed.

He wedged his large body beside me in the bed. On his side, he draped one arm across my middle, curling his other under his head. 

I watched him out of the corner of my eye, completely unsure if I was supposed to cuddle into him or what the hell we were doing. 

“This okay?” he asked. “You comfortable?” 

I was a lot of things. Confused. Lost. Overwhelmed by guilt.  

But because it was Camden, comfortable was one of those things too.  

As an answer, I rolled toward him and buried my face in his broad chest.  

His whole body sagged as he began stroking the back of my hair. “Nora. Nora. Nora.”  

In a way, Camden and I were strangers, but as his heart played in my ear, I felt two puzzle pieces clicking into place. A calm washed over me. The dark cloud of my betrayals still existed outside of Camden’s embrace; it just didn’t seem so ominous anymore. He knew all the dirty and broken parts of me and still came back, holding me as though he could keep me together.  

Sliding an arm around his back, I curled in close, shifting to tangle my legs with his. “I’m tired, Cam.”  

“I know,” he whispered, hugging me tight.  

“No, you don’t. Nobody understands. I’m a disease who infects everyone who gets close to me.” My breathing shuddered. “It hurts. Everything hurts.” 

“Do you remember our first summer together when a grasshopper got into the container where we held the extra worms? You screamed so loud when you opened that thing and it came flying out like a bat out of hell. It got on your shirt and then hung on for dear life. With all the racket you were making, the damn thing had to have been terrified, but he never jumped off. I had to peel it off your shirt, one leg at a time.”  

I gagged at the memory. “Thanks for reminding me of that. Awesome timing.”  

He chuckled and pressed his lips to the top of my head. “I’m the grasshopper clinging to your shirt, Nora.”  

Now, if that wasn’t some good old classic Camden Cole rambling, I had no idea what was. 

I tilted my head back, resting my chin on his pec, and peered up at him. “You do realize I have no idea what you’re talking about, right?” 

My cold, hollow chest filled with a warmth I hadn’t felt in years when he grinned down at me.  

“I genuinely thought you’d find your way back to me. A phone call. A visit. Anything. But as time passed and I got older, I realized I fell in love with a girl who had no idea how to be loved.” 

My stomach wrenched, and emotion made my vision swim. “Camden, I—”  

“No, just let me talk. Hear me out.” He tucked a stray hair behind my ear and let his thumb linger at my cheek, sweeping back and forth. “I know you love me, Nora. It’s flashed in your eyes every time you’ve seen me since we were kids. It’s like every light in the house suddenly comes on, but it terrifies you, so you spend the whole time we’re together running around, turning them all off, convincing yourself that you don’t deserve for people to love you back. But we still do it. Joe loves you. Thea loves you. Ramsey loves you. I’ll always love you.”

I really enjoyed this story and I loved the fact that it was a slow burn which was necessary. Scarlett and Luke had a lot to deal with and they needed that time to not only get to know each other, but to build something that was going to last and be protected. This is the fourth book in the Tin Gypsy series and the stories just keeps getting better and better! The small town romance, lovable characters, action, and let’s not forget the page turning plot. If you haven’t started this series yet, I really don’t know what you’re waiting for.

“If you’re not going to get out of the way, I’ll just go around.” I spun on my shoes, whirling the opposite direction, but when I went to take a step and carry my basket away, I suddenly found its weight missing from my arm. He’d stolen it from me before I’d had the chance to clutch it tight.

I knew this story was going to be trouble for me. I saw it, I felt it, and I ignored the warning signs anyway because deep down, I’m a glutton for punishment. I had this pre conceive notion that I was going to be left unscathed when I read the final words from this book because nothing and I mean NOTHING phases me in stories anymore and guess what happened??? I was a goner for these characters!! I fell in love when I shouldn’t have, I got my heart broken into a million tiny pieces and with all of that, I still had this crazy idea that I was going to be ok. I still held on to hope even though it was dwindling as the chapters were winding down and my god, I STILL gritted my teeth and braced for impact because this book?? This book is going to leave a mark on your heart whether you want it to or not.



Beyond The Roses is not your ordinary deep emotional sad story about loss and trying to find yourself when your world is practically in the midst of chaos and despair. This story was about sacrifice, putting yourself out there and knowing that not all of you will come back in one piece. It’s about finding the type of love that so many of us wishes that not only we can find, but hold onto because you know it’s rare. This story is about seeing what true happiness looks like between characters that love each other unconditionally but most of all, this story is about hope.




I’ve come to the conclusion that no matter what I write in this review, it will never do this story justice. I will admit that I did have a rough time in the beginning with trying to figure out how I felt about some of the characters and I had no idea which direction it was going to go in but once I got passed that, everything took off for me. The connection, the emotions, having hope, staring denial right in it’s face and wanting to go to war, to finally having joy and feeling the love, is the reason why this book was not only different for me but truly special.

I loved that this author did something different and she was not afraid to go there when it came to her characters. I respected her for it and just when you thought that this was it, she manages to throw you one heck of a gut wrenching twist that will have you curled up in a ball like a baby for days just sobbing!! If you’ve never read anything from this author, then you really need to get to it!

Please be advised that this book is not everyone. It is highly emotional, alcohol worthy inducing, and a sob fest. You’ve been warned.
