I could probably write a whole ass essay on this book, but since I would have to spoil the fuck out of it to do that, I'm going to have to do my best to relay what I can in this vague enough review.
The Wolf and the Wildflower starts out as a one night stand turned days long affair between Aster and Scythe, but it quickly evolves into a complicated, layered story of fate, betrayal, pride, heartbreak, and love filled with twists, turns, and tragedy. If you don't shed a few tears reading this book, you need to check your pulse to see if you're still alive! The intense emotions these characters felt poured off the pages straight into my heart, and I felt every single one of them.
Ella gave me all the emotional torment that made me fall in love with her writing when I read her first NA romance and swirled it together with fantasy and magic. She topped it off with a hefty dose of hot sex and sweet nothings and created utter perfection! This is definitely one of my favorite fantasies she's written thus far.
From the beginning, there are clearly secrets being withheld, but every time you think you've learned them all, you find out you're wrong. Each new bit of information changes so much about the characters and the story, and some of it is absolutely gut-wrenching. Everything is expertly revealed with perfect timing for maximum impact, and it delivers exactly what it's supposed to.
I love Aster and Scythe, but one of the most interesting characters that brought some of the strongest emotions out of me was Rorn. That's probably an unpopular statement, but it's the truth. He is such a tragic character to me, and as fucked up as some of the stuff he did was, my heart broke for him, too.
That being said, I don't excuse him for his unforgivable actions. I do wish things could have ended differently where he was concerned though, and I don't feel even a little bit bad about that. In fact, I bet if we got this story from his point of view, it would have destroyed us all.
I credit Ella's amazing writing for all of my complicated feelings. She could have written Rorn as a one dimensional asshole that didn't know what he had and betrayed the one he loved most for no good reason, but instead, she gave him so much complexity that I'll never forget this story.

The one thing that I really like about this author is that she gives you all the feels when it comes to small town romance. You’re going to get swept up in the quaint little town, the loving people, and the thrill of finding that new kind of love and witnessing every moment from start to finish. This is what she brings to every book and this story was no different.
Millie Rose has always had big dreams of doing something on her own eventually but being a wedding planner for her family’s business is more than enough for her right now. She’s single, happy with her family life, and is enjoying being in the present. But one night at a hotel bar changes everything and decides to go out of her comfort zone, Millie embarks on something that she swore she would never do. When that moment resurfaces a few weeks later and makes things in her personal life more complicated, she has to decide whether if some things are worth fighting for.
I don't want to go too deep in the premise of the story but I will say that I really liked that this was a good forbidden romance. It took it’s time in the important parts and the characters actually spent a lot of time getting to know each other and building something good even though it was done in private the majority of the time. Despite a few bumps in the road that threw their romance off track for a little bit, there was still something that was genuine and deep with these characters and you felt their love. It was slow burn, hypnotic and it made you want to be a part of the family.
If you’re looking for a small town eyebrow raising romance, then this one’s for you.

Ya'll…. Listen to me very carefully. What in the deliciously sick tarnation did I just read??? I don't know if I should be in therapy right now because I was cheering on the madness and laughing my butt off at times or saying screw it and embrace the crazy because I freakin loved it!
Rev has one goal and that's getting out of town and starting over somewhere new. Being in a small town and having to deal with entitled pricks on a daily basis is starting to reach its boiling limit with him and he has no reason to stay. That is until one of his classmates shakes up his entire world and leaves a mark that sets off a dangerous attraction and more in it's wake.
We were given a warning for this story and based on the prologue, I knew that this was not going to be an easy read. I felt it immediately and because of that, I went into this with a bit of trepidation which was warranted because my god!! The shit that went down in this book was effed up. I'm not even going to sugar coat this at all because I can't.
These characters didn't cross any lines whatsoever. Do you know what they did? They set them on freakin fire and then walked into that fire and then sat down and smoked a damn cigarette as if nothing happened! I can't even fathom wtf I just read and quite frankly if this is just the first book, you bet your ass I'm coming prepared for book 2. I need snacks, wine, rum, more rum and a therapist on call in that order.
This is not your typical dark read and I'm telling you right now please read the warnings and proceed with liquor. If you're looking for a messed up, twisted, dirty, thrilling revengeful read,this is hands down your book.
Excerpt
“Close your eyes.”
She arches a brow but thankfully does what she’s told—for once.
Ignoring every inch of my protesting body, I limp toward the lake’s edge because something amazing is about to happen. The sky lights up with thousands of lights, and it’s fucking beautiful.
Cupping my hands gently, I smile and hobble back over to Darcie.
Dropping to my knees before her, I say, “Open your eyes.”
When she does, she meets mine, then looks at my cupped palms. I open them, and her reaction is worth almost toppling over in pain.
“Oh my God,” she cries, steepling her fingertips over her mouth. “I thought they only came out during the summer.”
“Not all of them.”
We both watch as the firefly I caught lights up the space between us. It hovers between us, not appearing to be in any hurry to join its many friends.
“It’s beautiful,” Darcie says, her eyes glued to the firefly, and I know she sees the beauty in something so simple as well.
No matter what we’ve done, no matter what we do, we’re just a couple of misfits trying our best to survive.
I hook my thumb over my shoulder, and as the moon comes out of hiding, so do the thousands of fireflies, lighting up the night sky.
“Rev,” she gushes, coming to a stand and running toward the lake’s edge, her arms spread out wide like she too wishes she could light up the darkness. But little does she know, she lights up mine every single day.
Our little friend flies away, knowing his job here is done.
I join Darcie, standing by her side as we silently peer into the sky littered with fireflies. She reaches down and loops her fingers through mine. The fireflies soon pale compared to the fire burning between us.
As usual, the world fades into the background until it’s just Darcie and me.
“Thank you for bringing me here,” she says in an almost whisper. “It’s my first date.”
“Sorry I bled through half of it.”
She smiles, and the sight takes my breath away.
“Why do they light up like that?”
“Because of a chemical reaction caused by the organic compound, luciferin, in their abdomens,” I reply without thought.
“Luciferin,” she repeats softly. “Sounds kind of diabolical, which is ironic, considering it relates to something so beautiful.”
I can’t help but compare her analogy to herself—Darcie is kind of diabolical, but she is the most beautiful girl in the world.
I’ve always hated the word love. It gets thrown around so easily, losing its meaning. But luciferin, now that is a unique word. And this right now, this feels something like luciferin.

Looking for a fresh start with her daughter, Rain has bought a new house in a quiet and friendly neighborhood. With new beginnings comes the start of friendships and potential love interests and for someone who is fresh off a bitter divorce, Rain isn't looking forward to putting herself out there. But that all changes when she runs into someone who makes her rethink the idea of dating and moving forward.
Now in a state of bliss and getting settled into her life, Rain is finally at a point in her life where she’s happy. I was expecting a lot more with this story if I’m being honest and I was under the impression that this was going to be an intense romance thriller. I was not a fan of the insta love it was extremely rushed along with other things. Towards the end had too much going on and felt like I was reading a different book at times. I did love the neighborhood setting and the side characters and I would secretly love to see them get their own books. Aside from that, if you’re looking for a quick romance with a bit of mystery to it, this one might be for you.
