Sam Morgan thought losing Raven was the worst thing that could happen to him.

He was wrong.

Now he’s running from everything she left behind, putting miles between himself and the people who still care whether he makes it home. But no matter how far he goes, grief follows.

And so does Raven.

She should be gone. Instead, she’s trapped somewhere between what was and whatever comes next, unable to let go of the man she left behind.

Then Astra enters Sam’s life, all warmth and light in the middle of his darkness, and for the first time since Raven died, something begins to change.

Because sometimes the person haunting you isn’t the one you need to fear.

Sometimes it’s yourself.

I've been incredibly invested in this story from the moment I found out that this was going to be a trilogy. After reading the first book and not only falling in love with every single character, I was faced head on with a true heartbreak. I went through denial, shock, anger, and finally hope because I knew that this story wasn't over and that bump in the road was going to lead to an incredible new beginning.

Picking up right after the gut wrenching ending of Break Me, we were immediately thrown into the aftermath of pure grief. We saw every character dealing with it in their own way and we got a front row seat to a lot of self destruction with Samuel. Days turning into weeks and months felt like YEARS went by and I found myself praying for a time jump to bypass this level of fresh pain for him. When other characters got introduced, I breathed a sigh of relief because I knew that something good was around the corner.

I know that this review is extremely vague but for fear of spoiling anything, I won't delve into the story itself any further. What I will say is that I genuinely loved these characters and I wished that there was more time spent setting up and building a bond between certain characters. I felt like the majority of the book was an endless cycle of grief with an introduction to a new character. Don't get me wrong, I loved that and it was honestly some of my favorite parts of the book but I just needed MORE.

With a cliffhanger that came out of nowhere, I'm going to be climbing the walls until the next book comes out! I truly hope that the final book is going to give us everything that we were craving for and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

Bestselling author Tara Conrad writes where passion meets peril, crafting dark, spellbinding romances that blur the line between devotion and destruction.

Inspired by the haunting brilliance of Edgar Allan Poe, her stories reimagine Gothic tales with modern sensuality and power.

Within her pages, heroines rise unbroken, villains fall beautifully, and the darkness always tells the truth.

When she isn’t writing, Tara travels with her husband, meeting readers who have found pieces of themselves in her worlds.

She believes love isn’t always light. Sometimes, it’s found in the dark. ♥
