From the USA TODAY bestselling author of From the Embers comes a new jaw-dropping standalone romance.
Pain trapped me in this house. Can love set me free?
Death had been chasing me my entire life. I survived the horrors of war, but it was the aftermath that truly destroyed me.
People called me a recluse, but the only time I didn’t feel like I was suffocating was inside that house.
For my daughter, I kept some semblance of normalcy by implementing a rigid routine. Once a week, I forced myself to walk to the diner at the end of the block—a ritual I despised but relied on as my last anchor to the real world.
Until the day a “Closed” sign on the door shattered my fragile existence. Worse, the new owner was the most haunting ghost from my past.
It had been years since I’d laid eyes on Gwendolyn Pierce. She hated me—and rightly so. But when a film crew arrived in town to dig into my past, she became my only ally.
With my secrets threatened, I leaned on Gwen, forging a connection neither of us could deny. But with a past as dark as ours, I feared it would eclipse any hope for a future.
I always said that when Death finally came for me, I would be ready, eager, and alone.
Always alone.
But for Gwen, maybe I could face the world again as long as it meant I could be alone—with her.

I've really missed this author's writing. She pulls you in with her characters and makes you completely invested in their journey whether you're going to be cheering for their happily ever after, or watching their downfall. Either way, you're there for it and you won't have it any other way.
For the past eighteen years, Truett West has been in his own personal hell. Still consumed with grief and self hatred, he purposely punishes himself mentally with a never ending cycle of a ritual that keeps him stuck in the past. His flaws and sacrifices is constantly at the forefront in his mind so when someone from his past completely changes his rhythm, Truett knows that his meticulous time, is about to be engulfed in chaos.
Gwen is finally starting over with a new life and business. Her main focus is to build something from the ground up that not only she can be proud of, but her son as well. Coming face to face with a blast from her past was not on her to do list but as fate would have it, her book was already written.
This was truly a heartbreaking story and I had this sense of knowing what I was initially getting myself into with this read, but I really didn't. Things that I conjured up in my mind was nothing compared to what really happened and if I'm being completely honest, it broke me more. The characters' pain was palpable on every page and I dreaded when I saw a chapter in the past because I knew, that it was going to hurt even more and it did.
This was not an easy read and some of the characters will frustrate you at times but through it all, this book will be an experience. Love, loss, grief, finding hope and joy in the simplest things, is what's going to keep your attention. If you're looking for a deeply emotional second chance romance, I highly recommend you read this one.
Andrea has always been a Straight-forward person. If she wanted something, she was not afraid to go out and get it. Growing up with a strict military dad, you would think that she would be a rule follower but you know what? She makes her own rules. Her fascination with a priest that was kidnapped, morphed into a transcending love that will not only take her a lucrative career path, but it will ultimately put her face to face with her muse.
Father Savio knows just how precious life is and he's grateful for it everyday. Carrying out his duty to serve and be there for anyone that needs it, has never wavered despite going through his own special brand of hell. But he also wants to protect his parishioners and he knows that even though there's pure love and beauty, there's also dark and evil.
This was a slow burn in the beginning and even though that might not be for everyone, I actually enjoyed that. From the letters to the dual povs, there was just something so hypnotic about that time frame that captured everything beautifully. As the story progressed and we got further along, I did not enjoy the time jumps. I knew why it was done but I feel like it could've slowed down a little bit more.
If you're looking for a dark forbidden stalker romance, you should give this one a try.
Please be aware that this book contains some sensitive subject matter
Fighting My Way Back was the journey of one woman's fight for self assurance, security and falling in love with someone unexpectedly. It's about self discovery, forgiveness, family and not only having physical strength, but having the mindset of being strong as well.
After suffering from a traumatic attack, College Student Gwen Ledger is now recovering home at her dad's house in North Carolina. Still shook up from the experience but determined to get better, Gwen decides that the best thing for her is to learning how to defend herself and who's a better teacher than a former MMA fighter?
Silas knows what it means to work your body after a injury from the ground up and to get it back in the best physical shape. As the owner of one of the best gym for athletes and fighters, his focus is to make sure he's training everyone at top level. But his personal life has taken a hit for the last few years and Silas knows that if he wants that to change, he needs to go out of his comfort zone a bit. What he doesn't expect is to fall for someone who's not only younger than him, but needs his help in more ways than one.
I really enjoyed the first half of the story and I liked the connection between the main characters. They were an unlikely match but became perfect for each other in every way. They were supportive, flirty, and you felt the attraction between them from their first interaction. As the story progressed, things started to speed up a little too much for me and I felt like the author was rushing towards the end. I also didn't like how a couple incidents kept occurring. I understood the first one because it set the book in motion but more than once? That was over the top for me and I really wished that it didn’t happen as often as it did.
If you're looking for a semi dark MMA fighter romance with tragic past, then you should give this one a try.

Fear would only doom me faster. So I learned to hide it with games I soon became happy to play. I wasn’t supposed to crave a monster. But just when I’d thought I might tame the untameable, fate intervened.
