B celeste gave us heartbreak in this story. She gave us strength, purpose, clarity and a deep understanding of the term love. Never one to sugar coat anything, this author gave us a reality that we felt with her simple but powerful words and the characters that were portrayed, did the story justice.
"I find that the books with the saddest endings are the best because it makes us feel. We don't always get a happily ever after no matter how hard we work for it."
Usually I would give a little bit of info on the characters along with the plot but for this review, I won’t be doing that. What I will say is that this is not your ordinary step brother romance. This story was much more. This was about a brave heroine, an unbreakable friendship, healing old wounds and having a second chance at something that was priceless. These characters were not perfect but you felt their emotions and you fell in love with their fight and you couldn’t have asked for anything more better than that.
I was not expecting this story to be so different if I’m being completely honest. I was prepared for the regular step brother romance with a little bit of drama thrown into it. What I got was the complete opposite and you know what? I loved that. These characters were so real and honest to a fault that it felt like you were sitting right next to them having a real life conversation. I loved their fight, their compassion and what really brought it home for me, was the love and that was everything.
If you’re looking for a deep meaningful story that is sure going to hit you with all the feels, then this book is for you.
Excerpt
We walk for what
feels like forever until I see a large sycamore tree in the middle of a field
of purple flowers. It seems out of place, yet perfectly set at the same time.
Kaiden walks over to
it and sits down, leaning his back against the thick trunk. He seems at peace,
which is a new look for him. His body is eased as he stretches his long legs
out without a care in the world.
I stare. Not just at
him, but at the tree. It’s huge with its long branches and bright green leaves
transitioning into yellow and orange and red that give the space a beautiful
kind of life. Lo would have loved this spot. She would have dragged me out and
stayed here until Mama called our names in frantic worry. Lo always wanted to
be free, out in the open, surrounded by trees and plants and animals.
Suddenly, the tears
that had finally stopped falling on the way over begin building again until
everything blurs. Bottom lip trembling, I hear Kaiden’s heavy sigh.
“What’s wrong now?”
I answer silently
what my emotions won’t let me speak aloud.
Lo was buried under a sycamore tree.
