This is Me, Baby
by K. Webster War & Peace Series
Publication Date: February 7, 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Dark Romance
This is Me, Baby was one of my most anticipated reads for this year, and it did not disappoint! There was a bit of everything we have come to expect from this series: great villains, broken hero, strong heroine, violence, a kaleidoscope of emotions, and hot sex! If you are a dark romance fan and you haven’t read this series yet, don’t wait a moment longer! Go buy This is War, Baby, and you can thank me later. Already love the series, but haven’t one-clicked this one yet? Do it! You won’t regret it!
"The tiger stripes are fitting. Anyone that fucks with you will get the claws."
The continuation of Brie’s story is told mostly in dual point of view by Brie and Ren. We do get random chapters from other characters which I enjoyed. You don’t have to worry about a cliffhanger. This book has a solid ending, but also sets up for the story in the next book which already has me dying to read it!
"Love has fucking destroyed my daughter."
Devastated by the horrific events that occurred at end of the previous book, Brie is a shell of her former self. Gabe has rescued his daughter and Luciana, but now he doesn’t know what to do to help her. That is where Ren comes in. He dedicates all of his time to comforting her, and trying to help her heal. Ren has always been there for her in ways no one else has, and if anyone can bring her back to life, it’s him.
"You're going to cry it out. And then you're going to sharpen those claws. The world is about to hear you roar, baby."
Meanwhile, Vee is still out there somewhere, and no one knows where she is. As time goes on without a word from her, everyone begins to fear the worst. The drug business is in a state of chaos. Brie makes some decisions that lands her in hot water with Duvan’s family, and she finds herself making deals with Camilo’s rival, Diego, to protect her and her family from the fall out. Throughout the story, everyone is on edge worrying if and when the Rojas’ family is going to come for Brie, and so are you!
"I'm not a villain, cariño," he says in a firm tone as he releases my hands. He then gives me a playful slap on the ass before pulling away. "I'm a business man."
Will Vee be found? Should Brie really have put her trust in a man like Diego? Will she ever be able to move on from Duvan, and enjoy a life with Ren and her family? Will all of them even survive long enough for that to happen?
"And who the fuck are you?"Camilo demands as he shoves Gabe to the floor. Gabe scrambles back up to his feet and wipes blood off his chin. Camilo aims a gun at his face. "I asked who the fuck you are."
Gabe growls. "Your worst motherfuckin' nightmare."
I am already salivating at the thought of the next book! When it comes to this series, I just can’t get enough! We all I know that I love K. Webster with a passion, and this series helped begin my obsession. I don’t care how many books she writes for it, I will be reading every last one! It’s just that good. Her mind has to be a terrifying and wondrous place for her to come up with all of the dark deliciousness that she does, and all I know is, I don’t want to miss out on any of it!
It’s hard to say what I enjoyed most about this book. It was well paced, exciting, steamy, engaging, and just all around amazing! If I absolutely had to pick though I would say it was seeing all of our beloved characters from previous installments interacting as the fucked up family that they are. Not every family includes your mother’s murderer or your boyfriend’s mother’s captor (also known to you as Daddy). It’s all a lot to process for Brie, as it would be for anyone, but I enjoyed every moment of it!
"Yeah. Gabe is the villain in her eyes. He's the villain in mine too. But he's also your dad and the father of my adorable neice. It's complicated, but I think we're doing better than most families with this much baggage."
The cast of characters has grown exponentially as the series has gone on, and I enjoy each and every one. I adore the fact that multiple generations are involved now. Getting to follow these characters this long the way that we have is one of my favorite aspects of this series, and I am sure that will continue to be the case. I can’t imagine ever burning out them. The story and the characters just continue to get more complex and interesting as time goes on.
"Another threat by the feisty little fox. It's tigress to you, asshole."
The main characters in this book, Brie and Ren, have been through a lot in their relationship. Always friends and sometimes lovers, these two have a bond that is unbreakable. Brie is shattered and torn apart, but still has more fight left in her then she gives herself credit for. What she has gone through is enough to knock even the toughest people on their ass for a while. As much as my heart broke for her, I was also really happy to see her back with Ren. Ren has changed so much since we first met him. He isn’t the same sweet kid we once knew, but he is still loving and selfless. The fact that he is also now angry, tattooed, and sporting a lot more muscle sure doesn’t hurt. He has gone from boy to man, and he protects and loves Brie with everything that he has. When the two of them get together, sparks fly and so do their clothes. If you were hoping for some steam in this book, ladies and gentleman, you got it!
"It wasn't lovemaking like before. It was carnal, animalistic, unapologetic FUCKING."
Overall, This is Me, Baby and the entire War & Peace series is exciting, violent, suspenseful, interesting, emotional, and twisted. The romance is always hot, heartbreaking, and beautiful or obsessive, passionate, and deranged. The characters are complex, flawed, endearing, and/or batshit crazy! The writing is perfection, and I have yet to take more than two sittings to finish them. Usually, I can’t even wait that long! If you like dark romance or are a fan of the beautiful, dark genius herself, K. Webster, I recommend this one to you!
