HOLD MY BREATH
NA Contemporary Romance-Stand Alone
Scheduled to release: November 18, 2016
BLURB:Fractions of seconds can do lots of damage. One decision can ruin lives. A blink can be tragic. And loving a Hollister…can hurt like hell.
I would know.
They say the average person can hold their breath under water for two full minutes when pushed to the extremes. Will Hollister has been holding his for years. The oldest of two elite swimming brothers, Will was always a dominant force in the water. But in life, he preferred to let his younger
brother Evan be the one to shine.
Evan got the girl, and Will…he got to bury all of the secrets. A brother’s burden, the weight of it all nearly left him to drown.
The daughter of two Olympians, my path was set the day my fingertips first touched water. My future was as crystal clear as the lane I dominated in the pool—swim hard, win big, love a Hollister.
My life with Evan burned bright. He gave me arms to come home to, and a smile that fooled the world into believing everything was perfect. But it was Will who pushed me. Will…who really knew me.
And when all of the pieces fell, it was Will who started to pick them up.
In the end, the only thing that matters are those few precious seconds—and what we decide to do while we still have them in our grasp.
Ever wonder what could’ve been when the one person you knew you couldn’t have, becomes the one person that breathed life back into your body and gave you something that you didn’t even know you wanted? They gave you hope, purpose, and ignited a fire within you that will ultimately burn down all the reservations you’ve ever had about the past. That’s what this story was for Will and Maddy and their journey was filled with heartache and ambition but through it all, they found their way to each other and their love only made them stronger.
“I wonder if exceptional comes along twice in a lifetime?
Will has been through a rough couple of years. Losing his entire family in a horrific tragedy, he’s now at a point in his life where he’s ready to get back to his first love which is swimming competitively. Going back to his childhood coach and knowing that the ghosts of his past isn’t far behind, Will is more than determined to come out on top and get a little bit of closure from the one girl who stole his heart from the moment they met.
It’s been four years since Maddy lost her boyfriend and even though they say time heals all wounds, having someone who reminds her of him isn’t going to be so easy. Having come from a professional swimming background, being in the water is second nature to her so when she learns her Dad is going to be training her long time childhood friend who also happens to be the brother of someone she loved completely, is not only complicated but messy.
Can they both survive each other or will their longtime passion finally ignite their spark?
I have to say that I absolutely LOVED the connection between Will and Maddy. Their relationship bordered on a forbidden current that had me holding my breath with what was going to happen. They each had their own personal struggles and I liked how the author portrayed that and made them more appealing to each other. I did have some issues with how some things were said and the repetitive smirking with each other but aside from that, I really liked this story.
If you’re in the mood for a sweet romance with a side of angst, then this book is for you.
My arms move faster.
I feel Maddy pass me to the right. I can tell I’m ahead.
Each time my feet hit the wall, they push harder. Each time my hands punch
the water, they pull my body faster. With every stroke she takes, I take
two. My lungs work in sync with my heart, my head swivels when I need air,
my mind mentally calculates how long it will take until I reach the wall
again, and I count—five, four, three, two…spin.
My body moves so fast and my mind focuses on what fuels me so intently
that I don’t realize what’s happened until I feel Maddy’s hand grab at my
leg as I push off the wall and spin. I twist and startle in the water, the
wave of my wake washing over me while I grab at the rope and push water
from my eyes.
“What’s wrong. You okay?” I say, breathless.
“You went a hundred too far, Will. You beat me already,” she says.
My chest rises and falls, my lungs trying to claw their way back to normal
from the ragged abuse I put them through. I stare at her, and her
expression looks like pity.
“Don’t,” I finally say, swimming to the edge next to her. I move to lift
myself from the water, but her hand finds me again, her touch on my bicep
soft but arresting.
I look at her touch and then into her eyes. She pulls her hand away,
reaching instead for the rope behind her. She doesn’t speak for several
seconds. She doesn’t have to.
Her and I—we never really needed words. That’s why we stayed away from
each other. You can’t hide how fucked up you’re feeling when the other
person can read it all over your face.
“Thanks for the race, Maddy,” I say. I lift from the water and grab my
clothes, shaking away enough of the water to step inside without leaving a
slippery trail. I leave the door opened a tick behind me, but I don’t wait
for Maddy to get out and leave. We’re done here.
We probably should have never started.
