Book Review: The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

    January 13, 2025

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am.

    They don’t know what I’m capable of…

An unbelievably twisty read that will have you glued to the pages late into the night. Anyone who loves The Woman in the Window, The Wife Between Us and The Girl on the Train won’t be able to put this down!

Well… I wanted a thriller that was going to keep me hooked and ya girl showed up!. Now listen, I was expecting the story to go another way and just when I thought that I had everything figured out, I closed the book just to make sure that I was still reading the same story and that the title was the same because….

After being away for ten years, Millie is looking for a fresh start and that includes getting a job. Thankfully with a stroke of luck, she becomes the new housemaid for a rich family. As time begins to go by,Millie quickly learns that there's a lot more to this family and it's not all good. They say be careful what you wish for because everything is not always what it seems and she's about to find out just how much.

I've seen this book climb the charts and became a popular must read for thriller fans but still, I lingered. Given that's where I first started out before switching to mostly contemporary romance, it became a soft itch that I kept in the background. As time went on, I kept circling back to this story and it no longer became that but a roaring need to jump into the unknown. I will admit that I did see a few things coming but make no mistake, this author shocked the hell out of me with a plot twist that was so unexpected, I started apologizing to MYSELF for the profanity that came out of my mouth!!

If you're looking for an addicting psychological thriller that is going to make you question everything and leave you stunned, then I highly recommend you read this one.
